About the Job
Are you an experienced Fitter/Turner Engineer looking for an exciting hands-on role? Our client is seeking a skilled professional to join their team and play a vital role in maintaining and repairing steel machinery, structures, and vessels. You will be working on a variety of engineering tasks, including machining, welding, mechanical repairs, and preventative maintenance. Every day presents new challenges, from using lathes and milling machines to pipe threading and aligning rotating machinery.
This is a full-time role, Monday to Friday, with occasional weekend work when required. If you’re ready to bring your expertise to a dynamic marine engineering environment, this is the opportunity for you!

About You
To thrive in this role, you’ll need:
✔ A Trade Certificate in mechanical engineering or a related field
✔ Experience in fitting, turning, and general engineering work
✔ Proficiency with workshop machinery, including lathes, mills, and drilling machines
✔ Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail
✔ The ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and pipe schematics
✔ A commitment to workplace safety and best practices
✔ Welding experience (desirable)
✔ A full driver’s license (forklift and EWP licenses are a plus)

Marine Engineer – Working From Tamaki Makaurau (Auckland) Or The Manawatu Regions

Marine Engineer Class 1 (Minimum Mech 3-5)

  • An exciting newly created role managing and leading a maintenance team on an innovative project (Asset Build) that offers future sustainability, a first for the regions water transport and its services to commuters.
  • Reporting to the New Build Portfolio manager, you will work alongside stakeholders, using your knowledge and expertise to lead a team of dedicated maintenance engineers while liaising with shipyards in the build and survey of these new hybrid and electric powered vessels. 

Essential skills and experience.

  • Must be qualified according to New Zealand Maritime Standards, exceptional technical knowledge including that of some digitalisation. 
  • An electrical qualification would be desireable but not essential.
  • A leader who can demonstrate strong mentoring qualities and be available to answer questions at all times. 
  • Good analytical skills with a strong attention to detail. Leaving no stone unturned so as to future proof the acquisition and its ability to operate a first rate service from day one . 
  • Strong communication skills, both report writing and face to face consultation with said parties and stakeholders over the build process, essential in ensuring documentation and drawings related to design and installation are complete, clear, and accurate.
  • Some-one who expresses the energy and enthusiasm to take this role and the business into the 21stcentury of environmental sustainability offering both the local regions commuters and tourism some reliable, state of the art passenger services around the Hauraki Gulf and further. 
  • Please note – It is important to note that extensive and frequent weekly travel is required between the two regions, so all applicants must have the flexibility and freedom in which to be able to carry out this requirement as its needed.
